Academic Model

The Mission Preparatory School enables students to become self-motivated, competent, and lifelong learners armed with the knowledge, skills, and strength of character needed to succeed in college and become leaders in their communities. An educated person in the 21st century must possess the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed in higher education and the workplace and to participate in a global society, and they must be able to apply core skills and knowledge in multiple situations to solve complex problems.

Our core belief is that all children can achieve at the highest levels regardless of background or circumstance when held to high academic and behavioral expectations. Our college-preparatory curriculum and college-focused school environment will manifest the belief in high expectations for every child. “Hard work leads to success” will not just be seen and heard in every classroom and throughout the school building every day, school leaders, teachers, and students will bring these words to life in their intensive focus on learning and their continuous monitoring of academic progress.

Our academic model rests on the belief that all students must master fundamental literacy and numeracy skills and must access, comprehend, analyze, and evaluate rigorous academic content. Given our mission of equipping all students with the skills they need to be successful in college, we focus intensively on literacy and math instruction throughout grades TK-8. Developing strong literacy skills, in particular, is critical to students’ future academic achievement. At Mission Prep, 160 minutes of daily literacy instruction and 90 minutes of daily math instruction comprise the core of the academic day for students in grades K-4. In grades 5-8, students receive 90 minutes of literacy instruction and 90 minutes of math instruction daily.
